Richard "Dick? Freeman Tullis, 77, of 1680 A Avenue, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at his home, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Del Bear with military rites. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Graveside Committal: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Kilbourne Cemetery in Kilbourne, Iowa.
Survivors include his son, Mike Tullis and wife Rhonda of Marion; his daughter, Pat Carleton and husband Brent of Savage, Minnesota; a brother, Max Tullis and wife Donna of Columbus, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Beverly Tullis of Ottumwa; three grandchildren, Brandon Carleton, Carolyn Trimble and Michael J. Tullis; and two great granddaughters, Cassie Tullis and Summer Marie Carleton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma; and a brother, Robert D. Tullis.
Dick was born May 15, 1927, the son of Irving D. and Lettie M. (McGuire) Tullis in Ottumwa. In 1943 he graduated from Ottumwa High School. Dick served with the U.S. Navy as a Gunner?s Mate during WWII. He married Norma Lyons in Ottumwa and resided there for twenty years before moving to Marion in 1971. Norma died in 1983. Dick worked for Borden?s Ice Cream as a regional supervisor for thirty-five years and for Hy-Vee as a back room manager for ten years, retiring in 1991. Dick loved walking at Lindale Mall where he had many good friends.
Dick was a member of Low 12 Club in Ottumwa, VFW Post No. 788 of Cedar Rapids, American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion, Grace Baptist Church of Marion and was a Mason.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the El Kahir Shrine Hospital Fund, 1400 Blairs Ferry Rd. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA, 52402, in Dick?s memory.
