Richard E. Wolfe, 78, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 23, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at the funeral home. Burial: St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Richard was born May 21, 1947, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Eugene and Beulah (Sherrets) Wolfe. He graduated from Mason City High School. Richard continued his education at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City and the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. On August 22, 1970, Richard was united in marriage to Susan Vanous in Cedar Rapids. He worked as an industrial engineer in the Cedar Rapids area, retiring in 2010. Richard was a member of the Collins Woodworker Club, Cedar Rapids Metro Parkinson’s Association, and Wednesday Morning Railroad Club.
Rich was the ultimate handyman; he could fix anything. He loved woodworking, fishing, gardening, volleyball league, participating in Parkinson’s research at the University of Iowa, and searching for shark teeth on the Florida beaches. Above everything, Richard loved being with his family, especially attending his kids and grandchildren’s events.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Susan Wolfe; children, Lisa (Vic) Parcell of North Liberty, Iowa, and Dan (Kristin) Wolfe of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Kaylee, Anna, and Teagan Parcell, and JD and Tyler Wolfe; siblings, Judy Holub and Carol O’Connor; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard (Mary Beth) Vanous, Mary Stober, Jim (Cathy) Vanous, Carol (Todd) Langager, and Paul (Jody) Vanous; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers-in-law, Don Holub, Jim O’Connor, and Will Stober.
