Rita M. Konzen

Rita M. Konzen, 86, of 1330 Cardinal Drive, Marion, died on Good Friday, April 9th, 2004, at 3:15 p.m., at Mercy Medical Center, after a long illness. Services: Tuesday, April 13th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, by Rev. John Gossman. Friends may call at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, Monday from 4-7 p.m. with a parish wake at 7 p.m. Inurnment will be at a later date. Per Rita?s wishes, her body has been donated to the University of Iowa.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer; seven children and their spouses, Roger P. (Sharron) of Marion, Jeanne A. (John "Jack?) Rowe of Dundee, Illinois, Donna T. (David) Green of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Diane L. (Richard "Red?) Jensen of Mount Lake Terrace, Washington, Gary E. "elmo? (Patly) of Marion, Kevin J. (Irene) of Prior Lake, Minnesota, and John W. (Darla) of Marion; a sister, Sister Anna Clare Hanna of Rock Island, Illinois; sixteen grandchildren, Hannah and Abbey Konzen, Brother Paul Rowe, Elaine (Ron) Parker and Kathryn "Kate? Rowe, Melanie Green (fiancé Jack Roepke), Michele and Melissa Green, Nik, T.J. and Ryan Jensen, Emily Flowergarden and Noah Konzen, and Lisa, Angela and Tim Konzen; three step-grandchildren, Rawlin, Amanda and Heather; three great-grandchildren; a step-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George, Leo and Francis "Owen? Hanna; and five sisters, Florence, Helen and Mary Hanna, Claire Seyler and Agnes Clark.
Rita Mathilda Hanna was born June 3rd, 1917, in Ivesdale, Illinois, to Titus A. and Clara A. "Anna? Thiel Hanna. She was united in marriage to Elmer M. Konzen on August 6th, 1940, in Ivesdale. They moved to Marion in 1950 from the Chicago area. Rita was a loving wife and mother. She was a homemaker until her children were grown and then volunteered at St. Luke?s Hospital in Cedar Rapids for over 19 years. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of St. Mary?s Circle.
A memorial fund has been established in Rita?s name.
