Rita Jean Martin, 87, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2025. Private inurnment will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Rita was born on September 13, 1937, in Bankston, Iowa to Joseph and Monica (Winch) Berns. She graduated from St. Clement’s School in Bankston. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Walter Martin on July 31, 1965, in Bankston, Iowa. Their union was blessed with three children: Alan, Lynn, and Tammy.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Tammy Al-Abuadhim of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; siblings, Mary Andrea Berns of Rochester, Minnesota, and Richard (Frida) Berns of Dubuque, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth Martin; son Alan Martin; son Lynn Martin; three brothers, Joseph Berns Jr., Tom Berns, and David Berns in infancy; three sisters, Jolene, Joan, and Bernelda Berns; brother-in-law Vernon Nihles, niece Kara Berns; and a nephew Steve Nihles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be in the care of Tammy Al-Abuadhim.
