Robert “Bob” Allen Anderson, age 94, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died peacefully on June 3, 2025. He was loved dearly and will be missed by family and friends.

Bob is survived by his children Mark (Carla) Anderson, Rick (Deb) Anderson, Bruce (Sandra) Anderson, Don Anderson (Jane Dohrmann), Ron (Carol) Anderson-Lehman, grandchildren Paige (Evan) Freitager, Nicole (Jesse) Dougherty, Alicia Anderson (Jason Daniels), Chelsea Anderson, Elizabeth Anderson, Hope Dohrmann Anderson, Jesse Anderson-Lehman (Lauren Ponta), Samuel Anderson-Lehman, and Laura Anderson-Lehman, and great grandchildren Mylo and Jakoby Daniels, as well as Maddie, Jack, and Callan Dougherty. Additional surviving family members include sister-in-law Janet Anderson, brothers-in-law Alvin Olson, Walter (Judy) McKee, Jim (Sue) McKee, Marlan (Nancy) McKee, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie Anderson, brother George Anderson, sister Mary Ann Olson, parents William and Edith Anderson, stepfather Clarence King, and parents-in-law Jesse and Gladys McKee.

Bob was born in Reinbeck, Iowa on October 17,1930 to William and Edith Anderson. William was an immigrant farmer from County Antrim, Ireland. Bob grew up on farms in and around Ringsted, Iowa. He attended a one-room school in his early years and graduated from Ringsted High School in 1948. He worked as a farmhand until enlisting in the Air Force, serving in the Korean War from 1951-1954, much of that time as a teletype operator stationed in Tokyo.

After leaving the service, Bob was looking for stable employment and was told that Cedar Rapids was a good place to find it, so he moved there in 1956. True enough, after a few odd jobs, he joined the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in 1959 and worked there for 30 years, retiring (briefly) in 1989. Then in 1990, he took a job at a Hy Vee Grocery Store, where he worked another 13 years before finally retiring for good from gainful employment.

Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed being outdoors, earlier in life as a farmer, and then later as a letter carrier. In retirement, Bob took up golf. He loved to walk the course, preferably at the crack of dawn, and did so religiously until he was 89 and physical limitations forced him to stop. He was also a fisherman from his early days and loved “getting the line wet.” Bob considered himself a hobby meteorologist and loved to talk about the weather almost as much as he loved to talk about his home in Northwest Iowa. He was also an avid Cubs fan for many years, living long enough to watch them win the World Series, something he’d been pretty sure he would never see in his lifetime.

The family would like to express gratitude to Prairie Hills and Cottage Grove Place for the care they provided.

Visitation will be held at Murdoch Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids on Saturday, June 7 from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held immediately afterward at 1:30 p.m. A burial service will follow at Linwood Cemetery.
