Robert “Bob” George Hampton II, 79, of Walker, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026, at home. In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and private family services will be held. A public celebration of his life is being planned.
Bob was born on November 6, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Robert and Bette (Oxley) Hampton. He was a graduate of Cedar Rapids Washington High School and later attended Ellsworth Community College before graduating from UNI. Bob was united in marriage to Mary Thompson. To this union were born two sons, Andy and Nick. The couple later divorced. He worked at Arthur Elementary School as a Physical Education teacher for 32 years, until his retirement in 2002. Bob coached football for Cedar Rapids Washington and North Linn High Schools for over two decades. He was also a dairy farmer. Bob was a member of Marion Methodist Church. He enjoyed being outside, watching football games, attending community events, green flag racing, and going on family adventures. Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bob is survived and lovingly remembered by his partner, Kay F. Nelson of Center Point; children, Andy (Tiffany) Hampton of Erie, Colorado, and Nick (Valerie Ahn) Hampton of Madison, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Makenzie, Paul, and Carter; and sister, Mary Arbogast of Battle Creek, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Hampton; and sister, Susan Burger.
