Robert “Bob” James Hernandez, 72, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Mechanicsville Specialty Care. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at St. Ludmila Catholic Parish, located at 211 21st Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids. A lunch will be served following the mass.
Bob was born on August 11, 1953, in Mexico City, Mexico, the son of Juan Jose Hernandez and Carmen Elenor Gonzalez. He was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids. On September 11, 1982, Bob was united in marriage to Kim Alison Wallace in Central City, Iowa. After 47 years of service with the Linn County Roads Department, Bob retired in 2020. His commitment to community continued with his many volunteer hours as a Boy Scouts leader, Webelo leader, and Cub Master. He was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Parish and the Knights of Columbus. Bob was a loving husband to Kim for 43 years and a wonderful father to his five children. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bob is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Kim of Cedar Rapids; four sons, Matthew (Brandy) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Mark (Tiffani) of Cedar Rapids, Darius of Waterloo, Iowa, and Trevon of Cedar Rapids; his daughter, Carmella (Ethan) of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Victor (Kenda) of Cedar Rapids, and David (Tina) of Swisher, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carmen; father, Juan; brother, John; sister, Mary (Bob) Snell; in-laws, Chuck and Edna Wallace; and nephews, Silas and Adam Gentz.
