Robert R. Hines, 65, of Center Point, died Friday, May 28, 2004, in University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at First Christian Church Church, Center Point, by the Rev. John Caughron. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, with military rites. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday, May 31, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point.

Survivors include his wife, Rose; two daughters, Chris (Matt) Slaymaker of Center Point and Barb Hines of Hiawatha; a son, John (Shelley) Hines of Center Point; three grandchildren, Kyle, Miranda and Nicholas; two brothers, Charles Hines of Ft. Pierce, Florida and Emery Hines of Center Point; and a sister, Mary Peterson of Rimrock, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, David Hines.

Born November 29, 1938, in Marion, Iowa, to Oren and Pearl Starr Hines, he married Rose Abernathy on June 18, 1961, in Center Point, Iowa. He served with the U.S. Army during Vietnam. For nineteen years, he worked as a machinist for Rockwell-Goss, in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of First Christian Church in Center Point, the Center Point Jaycees, enjoyed volunteering at the High School in Center Point for the past sixteen years, and was a Cubs fan.

Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Dye Benion Post 297.
