Robert Lee Jones, 74, of Marion, formerly of Ottumwa, died Friday, March 31, 2006, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness. Memorial Services:

10:30 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2006, at Kenwood Park United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Laura Smith, with military honors provided by Marion American Legion Post 298. Burial: Highland Memorial Garden Cemetery in Des Moines at a later date. The family will greet friends from 2 - 5 p.m. Sunday (April 2) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; a daughter, Rose (Anita) Crescenz and partner Lars Alexander of Boulder, Colorado; two sons, Laird (Karen) Jones of Hiawatha and Andrew (Michelle) Jones of Marion; five grandchildren, Stephanie Jones, Jessica Jones, Kacey Jones, Austen DeSchamp and Phillip Jones; a sister, Donna (Darrell) Thede of Denver, Colorado; and his mother-in-law, Eloise Campbell of Exline, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Carl Jones.

Bob was born May 2, 1931, the son of Laird and Clara (Schlicher) Jones in Grinnell, Iowa. He was a 1949 graduate of Des Moines Technical High School and DeVry Technical Institute in 1954. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On July 11, 1953, he was united in marriage to Janet McAfee in Morning Sun, Iowa. He was employed at Collins Radio for sixteen years and at Picker X-Ray for twenty-three years, retiring in 1996.

Bob was a member of Willard Street United Methodist Church in Ottumwa, Wapello Chiefs Barbershop Chorus, Harmony Hawks and numerous church choirs.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bob?s memory.
