Robert D. Thompson, 78, of Central City, died Friday, August 31, 2007, in his home following a long illness. Graveside Service: 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City, with military rites. Memorial Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Central City, by the Rev. Wayne Droessler. Arrangements are by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen; his children, Larry Thompson and his son, Dallas of Turtlepoint, Pennsylvania, Susan (Kevin) Steuhm and their children, Katie, Libbie and Abbie of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Charles (Stephanie) Thompson and their children, Sheela, Jake and Josh of Kiowa, Colorado, and Douglas Thompson and children, Rachel and Jenny of Bellevue, Iowa; and a brother, Jerry Thompson of Decorah.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Esther Hovden; and a brother Luther Thompson.

Robert was born October 19, 1928, in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Ben and Emma (Bloom) Thompson. He attended school in rural Decorah. Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On January 18, 1956, he was united in marriage to Eileen Margaret Friedman in Lamont, Iowa. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Central City; a lifetime member of the Marion American Legion Post No. 298; and was an Operating Engineer for Union Local No. 234. Robert had a great love for working on John Deere tractors and he enjoyed the rural setting.

Memorials may be made to St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Central City or St. Luke’s Hospice.
