Roger Landon Reid

Roger Landon Reid, 90, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. A Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Community of Christ, located at 1500 Blairs Ferry Road, Hiawatha, Iowa 52233, with a Memorial Service beginning at 11 a.m. Military Honors will follow. A luncheon will be served following the services.

Roger was born on July 31, 1936, in Kit Carson County Colorado near the town of Seibert, Colorado. His parents were farmers and operated a medium-sized wheat and livestock farm for many years. He was the fourth son born to Lewis McKinley Reid and Lillian Eleanor (Schermerhorn) Reid. Roger graduated from Seibert High School in 1954 and from Graceland College in 1960.

He served with the United States Army for two years and spent a portion of his enlistment as a Company Clerk in the 6th Infantry Company, headquartered in Berlin, Germany in 1957-1958. He was honorably discharged as a Specialist 3rd Class in 1958. He obtained a master’s degree in social work from the University of Missouri in 1962 and worked as a social worker and a social work administrator in public and private social service organizations in Illinois, Kentucky, and Iowa. He also provided financial services as a representative of Primerica for ten years and served as a Financial Officer for the Community of Christ Church for three years.

He was an ordained minister in the Community of Christ Church for over 60 years, where he was just named Evangelist Emeritus on Sunday, September 20, 2026. His greatest enjoyment was his family. He found much satisfaction in his dedication to God and the ministry he provided as a pastor, church administrator and financial officer. He was proud of his contributions to the lives of many people as a social worker, family therapist, and social work administrator in several social service agencies over the years.

Roger enjoyed working with wood, welding, traveling, reading, and the maintenance of his extensive collection of archery equipment, and participating in archery tournaments. He was a Certified Archery Instructor for over 15 years. He taught archery at church camps for many years and was an archery coach for the Wapsi Warriors JOAD Archery Group in Linn County. His greatest goal in life was to demonstrate that he really cared for others.

He is survived by his wife, Marianne Sue (Richards) Reid; a daughter, Lisa K. (Duane) Webster of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a son, Kevin W. Reid of Maquoketa, Iowa; step-daughters, Melinda Lauck of Tampa, Florida, and Renee Lauck of North Liberty, Iowa; step-son-in-law, Paul Wageman of Cedar Falls, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Floyd E. Reid of Henderson, Nevada; sister, LaVada I. Hefner of Dardanelle, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Elan Reid of Cedar Rapids; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Barbara K. (Hokanson) Reid, who died in 1999; his parents; a baby sister; three brothers, David V. (Betty) Reid, Orlen W. (Irene) Reid, and R. Rex Reid; sister-in-law, Margaret Reid; and stepdaughter, Lisa Wageman.
