Rolland C. Towell, of 1029 74th Street NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, May 31, 2004, at the University Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Laura Smith of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; a daughter, Lana (William) Horton of Decatur, Illinois; a granddaughter, Jennifer (Christopher) Horton-Motter of Oak Creek, Wisconsin; a grandson, Matthew (Jennifer Bietsch) Horton of Heyworth, Illinois; a great-grandson Benjamin William Motter of Oak Creek, Wisconsin; a sister Nadine (Allan) Spielman, of Clearwater, Florida; five stepchildren, Denise Domer, Wendy (Michael) Stevens, Chris (Jessica) Engen, all of Central City, Iowa, Jeffrey (Megan) Engen of Prairieburg, Iowa, and Sandy Engen of Cedar Rapids; and 12 stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Elizabeth and Florence; and a daughter, Pamela Rae.
Rolland was born January 11, 1915, the son of Owen and Ruth Stine Towell, in Danville, Illinois. In 1942, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Childs. She died in 1983. Rolland was affiliated with the Central Illinois Conference of the Methodist Church as a student pastor. He graduated in 1959 from Millikin University and from Drew Theological Seminary in 1964. Rolland served the United Methodist Churches in Central Illinois. He then transferred to the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church. In 1985, Rolland married Florence Dlouhy. She died in 1996. In 1998, he married Judith Engen. Rolland was the area coordinator for Weight Watchers in the Cedar Rapids area for five years.
