Ronald Raymond Deutchman, 72, of Marion, Iowa, formerly of Elk River, Minnesota, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City. The family will greet friends from 5 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at the funeral home conducted by Reverend Bill Randles. Cremation will follow services and inurnment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Ron was born August 16, 1945, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, one of seven children to Christian and Helen (Orloske) Deutchman. He graduated from Minneapolis Central High School in 1963, and later obtained a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. He was an Army veteran, serving from 1963 to 1966. Ron was united in marriage to Kathryn “Kathy” Kamb on October 18, 1969, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was employed as a computer software engineer until retiring. Ron was a member of Believers In Grace Fellowship Church in Cedar Rapids, Bible Study Fellowship in the Cedar Rapids area, and the Marion Senior Center Wednesday 500 Card Club that met weekly at Lowe Park. He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and loved spending time with his four grandsons. After Kathy passed, Ron learned to cook and took pride in becoming a budding chef. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Jon) Houtman of Iowa City, Iowa and Stephanie (Kenneth) Highley of St. Paul, Minnesota; and four grandsons, Joshua Highley of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jacob Highley of Eagan, Minnesota, Connor Houtman and Owen Houtman, both of Iowa City, Iowa.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathy in 2015; a twin brother at infancy, Donald; and five adult siblings, Harold, Ludwig, Eugene, and Irving Deutchman, and Mary Nikoloff.
