In agreement with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or services held at this time. A Private Family Graveside Service will take place at a later date at Springville Cemetery. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Ron was born on October 15, 1938, in Clayton County, Iowa, the son of Verni and Lavirn (Breitsprecher) Fehlhafer. He was a 1956 graduate of Springville Community High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy for three years. On November 27, 1960, Ron was united in marriage to Rita Theresa Butler in Marion. Ron spent an impressive 42 years as a Senior Material Analyst at the former Square D, in Cedar Rapids, where his expertise and work ethic earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike, before his retirement in 2001.
An avid member of the Wapsipinicon Country Club for 52 years, Ron cherished his time on the golf course, where he made a ‘Hole-In-One’ four different times. He not only enjoyed the game, but also the camaraderie it offered. Ron had a deep love for the Iowa Hawkeyes and was a devoted follower of all sports; however, golf held a special place in his heart. In his leisure time, he found great delight in tackling jigsaw puzzles, which showcased his sharp mind and patience. Ron was also a member of the Springville United Methodist Church. He thoroughly enjoyed playing cards with the guys. During his earlier years, he embraced the role of gardener, nurturing many vegetables that he and Rita would preserve together. Ron will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ron is survived and lovingly remembered by his children, Renee (Brett) Jamison of Springville, Iowa, and Rodney (John Allen) Fehlhafer of El Paso, Texas; three grandchildren, Angela (Mark) Lehman, Adam (Amanda) Clary, and Alec (Rachael) Jamison; six great-grandchildren, Alexis Clary, Jacie Lehman (Abigail Eilers), Makayla Lehman, Carlee Lehman, Evalyn Clary, and Milo Clary; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Rita Fehlhafer; sisters, Doris Sievers and Lina Flender; and brother, Jerry Fehlhafer.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at both The Views of Marion and Suncrest Hospice, for the love, care, and support they gave to Ron during his stay and final days.
