Ronald Allen Yancey, 66, of 303 Mitchell Street SW, Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, July 12, at Crestview Acres, Marion, after a long illness. Services: 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. William Harnish. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2007, at the funeral home. Inurnment: St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.
Ronnie was born March 21, 1941, to Lawrence S. and Doris Yancey in Odessa, Missouri. He and his family moved to Iowa and eventually settled in Cedar Rapids where he attended Wilson School. Ron worked for Martin Marietta until 1993, when he suffered a major stroke and has been living at Crestview Acres Nursing Home since that time. He was married to Susan Brown and had a son and a daughter from that marriage. They were divorced shortly thereafter. A few years later, he married his wife of 31 years, Linda S. (Grady) Yancey.
He is survived by his wife; four children, son, Christopher, daughter, Kimberly, stepson, Kevin Grady and stepdaughter, Kim Grady; one brother, Robert N. (Bev) Yancey of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Alice Donath of Sedalia, Missouri, his twin, Rachel A. (Roger) Meskimen of Hiawatha, and Judy A. McAllister of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Margaret Yancey of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; loving stepfather, Leo S. Dvorak; brothers, Lawrence E. Yancey, Sr. and David L. Yancey; and a sister, Ruth A. Popelka.
Ronnie enjoyed stock car races and spent many good times attending them with his childhood friend, Bob “Bucky” Steadman. Ronnie was a fun guy with a great sense of humor and will be missed by family and friends.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Ronnie.
