Rosemary (Vorwald) Strang, 82, of Manchester, formerly of Coggon, died peacefully surrounded by her family Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 8, 2010 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa by her brother, Fr. Al Vorwald. Family will greet friends from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, with a 2:00 p.m. Rosary and a 7:00 p.m. Scripture Service at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, Iowa. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa.
Rosemary was born June 7, 1927 in New Vienna, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Amelia (Smith) Vorwald. She graduated from St. Paul’s High School in Worthington. Rosemary was united in marriage on September 15, 1954 to Thomas A. Strang at the St. Francis Basilica in Dyersville. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Cascade until 1957 when they purchased a farm near Coggon.
Rosemary was a member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas, the American Legion Auxiliary, and a past member of St. Patrick’s Church Altar and Rosary Society in Monti where she held numerous officer positions. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Manchester and their Altar and Rosary Society. While her children were in school, she was a supporter of the sports and music. Rosemary enjoyed gardening, baking, reading, music and drawing. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Rosemary loved traveling to be with her children and their families.
Rosemary is survived by her husband Thomas A. Strang of Manchester; eight children; Sheila (David) Sallen of Fort Madison, Alan (Kathy) Strang of Knoxville, Kathleen Knight of Ely, Thomas (Debra) Strang of Grimes, Mary (Michael) Thornton of Newell, Rebecca (Häkan) Ljungqvist of Stockholm, Sweden, William (Rita) Strang of Cedar Rapids, and Wayne (Tara) Strang of Albertville, MN; twenty-three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, The Rev. Aloysius Vorwald of Dyersville, Paul (Ethel) Vorwald of Epworth; brothers and sisters-in law, Darlene Vorwald of Dyersville, Alan (Evadene) Strang of Cascade, Jane Ann Greenwood of Monticello, Phyllis Gross of Cascade, Rosemary Heims-Turnis of Cedar Rapids, John (Lavonne) Strang of Cascade, Steven (Nancy) Strang of Cascade.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Amelia Vorwald; one brother, Wilfred Vorwald; and one granddaughter, Virginia Rose Sallen.
Memorials may be directed to the family with provisions for Annual Masses at St. Mary Catholic Church of Manchester and St. Francis Basilica in Dyersville.
