Ruth Malone, 72, of Marion, passed away Saturday May 29, 2010, in the company of loved ones after a three year struggle with lung and brain cancer.
Born June 14, 1937, in Manchester, Iowa, she was the daughter of John and Chloe Holthaus. On January 29, 1955, she married William Malone in Manchester.
Ruth was employed outside the home for most of her life. She was a devoted employee and a hard worker. In 1974, Ruth started working for Longview Fibre Company and worked there until her retirement in 2000.
Shortly after retiring from Longview Fibre she got restless and accepted a part-time position at Silver Pines Assisted Living & Retirement Community. She found working with the elderly very rewarding and they were the highlight of her day. She loved socializing, being around friends and family and enjoyed casino trips from time to time.
Survivors include her husband, William; three sons, Timothy Malone of Davenport, William and daughter-in-law Darlene Malone of Surprise, Arizona, and Charles Malone of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Michelle and son-in-law Jonathon Bailey of Cedar Rapids and Cally Madigan of Davenport. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Angela and Adam Martin and Timothy and Tyler Madigan; and two sisters, Ida Benter of Cedar Rapids and Dorothy and her husband Ray Francois of Springfield, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers and four sisters.
The family would like to thank the Hospice of Mercy professionals for their help, kindness and sincere devotion to Ruth over the past six weeks. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mercy Foundation for the benefit of the Hospice of Mercy.
