Ruthann Lucretia Farnsworth Adkins, 90, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died there Thursday, February 26, 2009, following long illness. There will be no services.
Survivors include her children, Laird Curtis (Laura) Adkins of Astoria, Oregon, Edward Clayton Adkins of Thailand, Richard Craig Adkins of Cedar Rapids and Margaret “Peg” (Ronald) Adkins-Robinson of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Fred Farnsworth, Jr. of Davenport; and sister-in-law, Aldena.
Ruthann was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Curtis.
Born August 6, 1918, in Des Moines, Iowa, Ruthann was the daughter of Frederick and Ethel (Laird) Farnsworth. A graduate of Central High School in Davenport, Iowa, Ruthann went on to attend MacMurray College for Women in Jacksonville, Illinois and graduated from Northern Illinois State Teachers College in DeKalb, Illinois.
On November 18, 1939, she married Curtis Adkins of DeKalb, Illinois, in the First Presbyterian Church in Davenport. He died in 1998. Prior to moving to Cedar Rapids in 1945, they lived in Burlington and Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Ruthann was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church since 1946, and was an ordained elder. She was employed as a media specialist for the Cedar Rapids Community Schools from 1967 to 1969 and 1973 until her retirement in June of 1980.
