Ruthmary Sherbon, 87, of Walker, Iowa, passed away on March 8, 2011 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha following a brief illness. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011, at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall, where a Rosary will begin at 4:00 p.m. A private burial will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Survivors include seven children, Joseph G. (Marsha) Sherbon of Walker, Mary (Frank) Swiderski of Cedar Rapids, Jane (Jim) Meisheid of Walker, Will (special friend Jo Norris) Sherbon of Walker, Joann (Phil) Auld of Walker, John (Becky) Sherbon of Cedar Rapids, and Ruth (Tim) Kriz of Marion. She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren; Joe (Sarah) Sherbon, Beth (special friend Travis) Sherbon, Stephen, Catherine, Anne Marie, and Elizabeth Swiderski, Melissa (Brian) Wheatley, Matthew, Marcus, and Michael Meisheid, Danielle, Alex, and Jonathan Auld, Allie, Kelsie, and Seth Sherbon, and Abbey and Emily Kriz; four great grandchildren; Benjamin, Meghan, and Braden Wheatley and Eve Sherbon; a sister-in-law, Agnes Stone of Brooklyn, Iowa, and a brother-in-law, James Sherbon of Walker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A Sherbon; her parents; a brother, Robert Bruhn; and infant daughter, Amy.
Ruthmary was born February 4, 1924, daughter of Fred and Eulalia (Beck) Bruhn, in Toledo, Ohio. She was a graduate from Mary Manse College in Toledo and worked as a librarian in Ohio prior to her marriage. She married Joseph A. Sherbon on February 5, 1955, in Toledo, Ohio. Together, they farmed near Walker until 1995 when they retired and moved to town. Joe died January 21, 2003. Ruthmary was a devoted farmwife, and loved being with her family. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and raising her family. She was devoted to her Catholic faith, and was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker.
An avid reader, Ruthmary enjoyed her Ladies Guild, church activities and traveling.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Ruthmary.
