Sandra “Sandy” Ann Schatzle, 87, of Coggon, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at her home, surrounded by family. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Coggon United Parish, where the family will greet friends beginning at 9 a.m. until the service time. Inurnment will follow at Coggon Cemetery. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Central City, Iowa is assisting the family.
Sandy was born on December 23, 1938, in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Wilbur and Mildred (Appleby) Milroy. She was a graduate of Manchester High School. On February 16, 1958, Sandy was united in marriage to Phillip Franklin Schatzle at the Coggon Christian Church in Coggon, and together they raised six children.
Sandy worked at Brownies Jack and Jill Grocery Store and went on to work in the food service department at the North Linn School District. She delighted in hobbies such as crocheting, camping, and caring for her beloved wiener dogs. Sandy was also an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. She served on the Library Board in Coggon for many years. Sandy treasured her family above all else, faithfully following all her children’s and grandchildren’s activities and cherishing every moment spent in their company. She will be remembered fondly for her warmth, dedication, and the meaningful contributions she made throughout her life.
Sandy is survived and lovingly remembered by her five children, Michael (Jody) Schatzle of Coggon, Charlene Siddell of Coggon, Dan (Debbie) Schatzle of Walker, Iowa, Christine Schatzle of Coggon, and Deneen (Jon) Mangas of Coggon; 12 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ronald Milroy, Kathy Milroy, Karla (Kenneth) Sharp, and Alice Kluesner; and brothers-in-law, Jay Smith and Dick Waterhouse.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Phillip Schatzle; son, Greg Schatzle; son-in-law, Mitch Siddell; great-grandson, Samuel Schade; sisters, Wiletta Waterhouse and Donna Smith; brother, Kenneth (Carolyn) Milroy; brother-in-law, Loras Kluesner; and sister-in-law, Joyce Milroy.
Memorials in Sandy’s memory may be directed to the Coggon Library.
