Sara Mae Dostal, 76, a resident of Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, died peacefully and surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Cottage Grove Place. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, Marion, by Pastor Howard Chapman. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Graveside Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Doug (Becky) Dostal of Fort Collins, CO, and Dawn (Matt McFadden) Thilmany of Fort Collins, CO; five grandchildren, Emma Ruth, Madeline Grace, Samual Jacob, Lydia Renae, and Elizabeth Anne; two brothers, Durwood (Barb) Busse of Southern California, and David (Judy) Busse of Minneapolis; and her loving, and loyal dog, Cy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lumir (2012); her son, Daniel Allen; and daughter, Diana Lynn.
Sara was born June 8, 1938, in Readlyn, IA, the daughter of Allen and Bernice (Young) Busse. She graduated from high school in Monona, IA where she played in the All State Orchestra, and went on to attend the University of Dubuque, and the University of Iowa. Sara was a teacher for many years for Monticello schools and for Kirkwood at the Linn County Care Facility. She married Lumir Dostal on June 23, 1962, at the First Presbyterian Church in Marion. Sara was very involved at the church and was a member of First United Presbyterian Women, the Homemakers Circle, a member of several choirs, a Deacon, and a faithful servant of the Lord. She was also a member of TOPS, and won the Iowa Heart of Gold award. Sara was an enthusiastic Iowa State Cyclones fan and an active promoter of the Ag Industry.
