Sarah Ruth Johnson

Sarah Ruth Johnson, a beloved matriarch whose life spanned more than a century, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, at the age of 109. A celebration of Ruth’s remarkable life and legacy will be held at 11 a.m. May 30, 2026, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids with visitation to begin one hour prior. Burial will be take place at Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Born in Cedar Rapids Iowa on July 3, 1916, her life was a remarkable journey of resilience, love, and witnessing unprecedented historical change. Known for her kind heart, unwavering faith, and indomitable spirit, Sarah was often referred to by family as Ruth. She spent her 109 years spreading joy, often found knitting, reading, playing cards, and sharing stories of a world that once was.

Ruth married her late husband Carl Johnson, in Muscatine Iowa, 1934 and together they built a life characterized by hard work and dedication to family. She was a devoted mother to Jerry Johnson and Bonnie Whitehead and cherished her role as grandmother and great-grandmother to many, who all adored her.

Her longevity was often attributed by her deep faith, a positive attitude, or a good sense of humor. She lived through the Great Depression, WWII, and the invention of the internet and always approached the future with optimism.
