Sharon “Shari” Kay Timms, 85, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. A Memorial Service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the United Church of Christ in Central City. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City. There will be a luncheon following at the Church. There will be an opportunity for anyone who would like to share a special memory of Shari during the memorial service.
Shari was born on September 19, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Mac Henry and Jeanette Rose (Comley) Stone. She was a 1957 graduate of Central City High School and went on to attend Business College in Cedar Rapids. On January 27, 1963, Shari was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Timms. She began her working career at Metropolitan and later, Equitable of Iowa insurance companies. She worked as School Board Secretary for the Central City Community School District for 15 years; and then worked at the Parks and Public Property Department in Cedar Rapids until her retirement in 2004. Most importantly, she was the bookkeeper from 1967 until 2002 for the family business, Don’s Standard Service (The Sportsman Station).
Shari was very devoted to her faith, serving as the Sunday School superintendent for many years; organizing vacation bible schools, and was a longtime member of the Monday Club. She had a beautiful voice and was a member of the Sweet Adeline’s Club and also sang in the United Church of Christ Choir. Shari was a member of the American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary for many years, earning the Unsung Hero’s award. She was a volunteer leader of the Camp Fire Girls, a card club member for 40 years, and awarded the Main Street Central City Volunteer of the Year Award. She was active in the Central City Historical Society and the D.C. Club. Shari lived the motto “service not self.” She served her family, friends, church, community and country. Shari will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Shari is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, Dick Timms of Central City; children, Kristin Timms of Orono, Minnesota, Sheila (Craig) Kozler of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, and Chet (Amy) Timms of Central City; six grandchildren, John Fort, Oliver, Elliot, and Amelia Kozler, Jack and Evelyn Timms; sister, Dorothy “Duffy” (William “Bill”) Crowe of Onemo, Virgina, and their children, Steve (Lynette) Beebe of Gwynn’s Island, Virgina, and Stacey McCarty of Culpepper, Virgina; two brothers-in-law, Donald (Alice) Smith and their children, Gina (Stephen) Stewart and Andy (Michelle) Smith, all of Central City and Harvey (Birute) Timms of Mentor, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law, Peggy Timms, and a brother-in-law, Allan Scott.
