Shawn Thompson, 49, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids, where there will be a Celebration of Life at 7 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Deborah Thompson of Cedar Rapids; mother, Shirley Ross of Cedar Rapids; children, Emily Thompson (Jozef Hermanson) of Cedar Rapids, and Benjamin Shawn Thompson of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Carter and Brenton Shawn Hermanson; sister, Gina (Jerry) James of Luzerne, Iowa; brothers, Dana Thompson of Cedar Rapids, and Kelly (Michele) Thompson of Cedar Rapids; parents-in-law, Roger and Jaynie Pint of Independence; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his step-father, Bill Ross.
Shawn was born on March 28, 1963, in Denison Iowa. He graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1981, then he later joined the Army National Guard until 1988. Shawn attended Kirkwood College where he received his RN degree. He married Deborah Pint on May 12, 1990, in Independence, Iowa. Shawn worked at Keystone Nursing Home and Mercy Medical Center in the Dialysis Unit for 10 ½ years, most recently at Living Center West. He was a member of Isaac Walton League. Shawn enjoyed collecting guns, shooting and going to movies. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
