Shirley Mae Druecker, 87, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Hallmar Village in Marion. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. To celebrate Shirley’s life, the family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at St. Sebald Lutheran Church, located at 12998 338th Street in Strawberry Point, Iowa.
Shirley was born on October 15, 1938, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, the daughter of Vincent John and Emma Marie (Bouzek) Mezera. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School. On May 7, 1960, Shirley was united in marriage to Luverne August Druecker in Prairie du Chien, and together, they had two children. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion.
Shirley dedicated over 40 years of her life to running an in-home daycare, nurturing countless children. Her gentle spirit created a safe haven for the young ones in her care, and her home was filled with laughter and love. One of her favorite pastimes was watching "As the World Turns," which she affectionately referred to as "her story." Every day, she would take a cherished break from her duties to immerse herself in the lives of her beloved characters.
An enthusiastic traveler, Shirley found joy in trips to Wisconsin, exploring new places and creating beautiful memories with family and friends. Her adventurous spirit was matched only by her love for baking, and she took great pride in her accomplishments as a very good baker. Her delectable treats often delighted family gatherings and special occasions, made with love and care that only Shirley could provide. Shirley will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Shirley is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Dean Druecker of Marion; three grandchildren, Kaden Druecker, Aaron (Kristin) Cannon, and Ellen (Jared) Samuelson, all of Cedar Rapids; two great-grandchildren, Finnigan and Sadie Cannon; son-in-law, Pat Cannon; brother, Robert “Bob” (Joan) Mezera; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Luverne Druecker; daughter, Dawn Cannon; and one brother, Vince Mezera.
