Shirley Ellen Martin

Shirley Ellen Martin, 84, of Alburnett, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Per her wishes, no funeral services will be held.

Shirley was born on August 8, 1941, to Harvey and Freda (Coates) Wright. Shirley married her husband, Loren Martin, in 1959 at the Methodist Church in Spickard, Missouri, on the way to Lake of the Ozarks. The couple lived in Alburnett for over 60 years. Shirley was a devoted mother and grandmother, dedicating her life to her family. She most notably drove the school bus for Alburnett Schools for over 25 years. The phrase “If you love your job, you never work a day in your life” certainly applied since she was surrounded by young people. She enjoyed having fun, laughing, coffee, and telling stories.

She is survived by her three children; Trudee Brendes, David (Audrey) Martin, Rick (Kim) Martin; her twin sister, Cheryl; nine grandchildren, Nichole, Mitchell, Michael, Megan, Cory, Cody, Zach, Natilee, Lauren; two great-grandchildren, Rory and Lily.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert Wright, Buzz Wright, Robyn Wright; sister, Florence Williams.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to her daughter, Trudee Brendes and Unity Point Hospice, especially Chris, Alecia, Suzanne, and MaryAnne, for their wonderful and loving care for Shirley.
