Shirley Ann Spinler

Shirley Ann Spinler, 87, of Central City, Iowa, passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, Iowa. A private family graveside will be held at Mount Clark Cemetery in Central City.

Shirley was born on August 23, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Melvin and Darlene (Knott) Biederman. She graduated from Coggon High School. On September 15, 1956, she was united in marriage to Melvin Ray Spinler at St. John Catholic Church in Coggon, Iowa. She worked at Rockwell Collins for many years. Upon her retirement, Shirley enjoyed traveling with Melvin, especially cruises and spending time at their home in Florida. She enjoyed relaxing with a cold glass of wine or a margarita and cherished lunch dates, movies, and shopping with her dear friend, Linda. Above all, she treasured family time and took great joy in attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.

Left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Brenda (Chris) Schmid; grandchildren, Linsey (Landon) Merkle, Austin (Jackie) Schmid, Dylan (Miranda) Schmid, Scott (Kenzie) Spinler; great-grandchildren, Brennen and Zoey Merkle, Keaton and Tanner Schmid, Finn and Sawyer Spinler, and Audrey Schmid.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin Spinler; son, Brad Spinler; grandson, Sam Spinler; and grandson, Trent Schmid.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Hiawatha Care Center and Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House for the exceptional care, compassion, and dignity they provided to Shirley—particularly in her final days. Your kindness meant more than words can express and will never be forgotten.
