Steven “Burr” C. McAreavy, 69, of Delaware, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019. Visitation: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2019, at the Delaware Fire Department; followed by a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life beginning at 12:00 p.m. Arrangements by Clifton – Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville, Iowa.
Burr was born December 16, 1949, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Carol (Keith) McAreavy. He was a graduate of Maquoketa Valley High School. On November 14, 1970, Burr married Beverly Sauer in Delhi, Iowa. He worked as a mechanic and truck driver and was proud to have been part of the start of the Iowa Pipeline and continued on with InfraSource for an additional 15 years. Burr served as a member of the city council, the Delaware Fire Department, and the Delhi Legion and was proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Burr was a hobby farmer and enjoyed collecting antique Farmall equipment. He was always willing to help others and was a father figure to many. He loved his family and the time spent with them.
Burr is survived by his wife, Beverly McAreavy of Delaware; his children, Steve “Butch” (Diane) McAreavy of Michigan, and Tammy (Rick) Stelken of Delhi; grandchildren, Anthony (Amanda), Kiesha, Madison and Hayden; brother, Tom (Becky) McAreavy of Delhi, sisters, Patsy (Wayne) Sawyer of Delhi, Sue (Jim) Burbridge of Delhi, Becky Sellers of Delhi, and Nan (Pat) Graw of South Carolina.
Burr was preceded in death by parents; and a grandson, Seth Stelken.
