Steven Douglas Hartwig Sr.

Steven Douglas Hartwig Sr., 73, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion. Friends may call from 5 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday June 30, 2026, and an hour prior to services Wednesday, at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City, Iowa.

Steven was born on February 24, 1953, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of William and Bessie (Topping) Hartwig. He was a 1970 graduate of Anamosa High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army from 1971 - 1974, during the Vietnam War. On March 15, 1975, Steven was united in marriage to Diane Kay Wilson in Cedar Rapids. Together they raised four sons.

He dedicated 40 years to his career at International Paper Company, until his retirement in 2017. He enjoyed traveling and trips to the casino. Steven most loved spending time with the children in his family, especially his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He had a special place in his heart for animals, especially cats. Steven was also a diehard fan of the San Francisco 49ers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Steven is survived and lovingly remembered by his three sons, Raymond “Ray” Hartwig of Cedar Rapids, Steve Hartwig Jr. of Marion, and Derek (Andrea) Hartwig of Anamosa; three grandchildren, Alexis, Isaiah, and Nathaniel; siblings, Jane Shaw of Lisbon, Iowa, Allen Hartwig of Murrieta, California, Paula Martin of Cedar Rapids, and Gary (Catherine) Hartwig of Napa, California; and a host of extended family, including cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Diane Hartwig; and son, Michael Boylan.
