Steven "Steve" Alan Lindell

Steven “Steve” Alan Lindell, 75, of Marion, Iowa, passed away with his family by his side on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. The funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Marion Methodist Church. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Buck Creek Cemetery in Buck Creek, Iowa. 

Steve was born on July 3, 1951, in Jefferson, Iowa, the son of Ivan Curtis and Ardys Jeanette (Winchell) Lindell. He graduated from Boone Valley High School and earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from the University of Northern Iowa. On August 4, 1989, Steve was united in marriage to Brenda Lee Smith in Marion. He worked at Iowa City School District, Cedar Rapids School District, and Marion School District; retiring in 2020.

Steve’s enthusiasm for riding his bicycle was evident to all who knew him, as was his love of spending time with family, coaching basketball and football, teaching driver’s education, and driving a school bus for Linn-Mar. He enjoyed exploring numerous states with his wife, Brenda, and racing his go-kart and modified. He was a loyal supporter of the Iowa State Cyclones and the Chicago Cubs—always ready to cheer them on with a heartfelt, “Go Cubs Go!”

Steve is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Brenda Lindell; his son, Tyler Lindell; his daughter, Amanda (Scott) Paulus; and his grandchildren, Bryce Lindell, Koleson Trumm, and Emma Paulus. He is also survived by his parents, Ivan (Ardys) Lindell; his sister, Sandy (Dana) Kramer and their children, Melissa, Josiah (Rebekah), and Judah and their families; Brenda’s parents, Roger (Bev) Smith; his sisters-in-law, Teresa (Mike) Bader and their children, Lauren and Steven, and Renee (Corey) Miles and their children, Bronson, Dylan, and Gavin; and his children from a former marriage, Josh (Gina) Lindell and their daughter, Zoey, and Erica (Chris) Auer and Erica’s children, Brody, Hayden, and Mason. He will also be dearly missed by his grand fur-babies, Gimli and Ivy Paulus.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Grandma and Grandpa Lindell and Grandma and Grandpa Winchell; Brenda’s grandparents, Grandma and Grandpa Smith and Grandma and Grandpa Hattle; and Brenda’s brother, Steven Smith.
