Thomas “Tommy” Hansen, 57, passed away on March 20, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. The family will host a Celebration of Life from 1 – 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at The American Legion Post 671 at 68 3rd Street SE, Swisher, Iowa.
Tommy was born in Oelwein, Iowa to Thomas Hansen and Dixie (Weber) Burg. He worked at International Paper for nearly 28 years. He loved spending time with his dogs, Willie and Dolly, riding his Harley, catching up with friends and traveling with his wife. He found joy in being surrounded by others whether it was sharing stories, laughter, or simply enjoying the moment together. He had a way of turning ordinary gatherings into something meaningful, reminding everyone around him what it felt like to truly connect.
Tom never met a stranger, only friends he hadn't connected with yet. His warmth was immediate and genuine, the kind that put people at ease within moments. He was a kind soul in every sense of the word. Generous with his time, his laughter, and his heart. Tom loved fully and without hesitation. Showing up for the people in his life in ways both big and small. It's clear that Tom's greatest gift was always his spirit, his compassion, and his ability to make others feel seen and valued. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and unforgettable memories.
He is survived by his wife, Jodie Hansen; children, Brandon (Paige) McMurrin, Melissa (Evan) Gentes; grandchildren, Maverick, Myles and Baylor; mother, Dixie Burg; sisters, Michelle Hansen, Renee (Doug) Christensen, Jodee Hansen, Daneille (Moki) Fernandez; sister-in-law, Jessaca (Ricky) Spratt; nieces and nephews, Tara (Justin) Gunderson, Carson (Lindsay) Dibble, Brandon Hansen, Megan (Mike) Partington, Cora Fernandez, and Lane and Keilea Spratt; and several of his friends’ children that called him “Uncle Tommy” because he was family to them.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Hansen; sister, Teresa; his grandparents, and his mother-in-law, Janice Hughes.
If you wish to help by way of contributions, donations can be made directly to Jodie Hansen, the Iowa Donor Network or the charity of your choice in Tom's name.
