Thomas L. West, 90, of 1422 M Street SW, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, May 24, 2006, in his home, following a lingering illness. Services: 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Darran Whiting. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Sharon Vogel, Beverly (Gary, Sr.) Brooks, all of Cedar Rapids and Joseph West of Tallahassee, Florida; seven grandchildren, Kimberly Vogel, Mark Vogel, Lori Wilcoxson, Brian Vogel, Gary Brook, Jr., Bobbie Brooks and Brad Brooks; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Catherine West of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian; a brother, Donald West; two sisters, Daisy Riley and Dorothy Paulsen; and a son-in-law, Richard Vogel.
Thomas was born August 25, 1915, the son of Louis and Gail (Wolf) West in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On December 11, 1936, he was united in marriage to Lillian Downey in Rock Island, Illinois. Thomas worked for Cherry Burrell. While working at Cherry Burrell, he was involved in the early space program with NASA. Thomas enjoyed racing, sprint cars and motorcycle racing.
