Todd Joseph Smith

Todd Joseph Smith, 62, of Alburnett, Iowa, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Scripture and Rosary Service will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, with a visitation to follow until 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where an additional visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until the service time. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Prairieburg, Iowa.

Todd was born on July 30, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, the son of August and Margaret (Loughren) Smith. He was a 1981 graduate of Linn-Mar High School and went on to attend Kirkwood Community College, where he earned his trucking certification. On April 23, 1983, Todd was united in marriage to Kristina Baker at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion.

Todd’s career as a truck driver, working for Consumers Supply, was not only a profession but a reflection of his love for the open road. Todd had a great sense of humor and could brighten anyone’s day, never passing up the opportunity to tell a joke. He was well known for his charitable work, notably serving as a charity auctioneer at numerous events, including the annual car show every May at Camp Courageous. With his natural gift for connecting with children, Todd brought the spirit of Santa Claus to life for over 25 years at local events.

Todd enjoyed early morning sharing coffee with local farmers and friends. His love of music was another defining element of his life, highlighted by his time in the band Ramblin’ Fever, an accomplishment of which he was deeply proud. Todd’s greatest joy in life was the time spent with his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Todd is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years, Kristina Smith of Alburnett; five children, Ryan Smith (Kelsey Whalen) of Iowa City, Iowa, Clayton (Desiree) Smith of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Elijah (Leah) Smith of Marion, Maggie (Ray) Heasty of Waubeek, Iowa, and Celia Smith (Andy Brownell) of Alburnett; grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler, Leland, Wyatt, Emma, Aria, Beau, Lillian, Ezralee, and one on the way; sisters, Lisa (Blaine) Steggall and Dawn (Randy) Danford, both of Marion; mother-in-law, Lauralee Baker of Marion; brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Kyle Baker of Marion, Corey (Kathy) Baker of Cedar Rapids, and Kelly (Joe) Ickes of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
