Verdena Maxine Bowers, 80, Center Point, died Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point by the Revs. Leo & Sherry Anderson. Visitation will be held from 4 ?" 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, Toddville.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Casper “Cap” Bowers; four children, Cherryl (Richard) Denison of Cedar Rapids, Clifford (Diane) Bowers of Toddville, Cassandra Nolan of Chandler, Arizona and Cheyenne Bowers of Florida.

Also surviving are six grandchildren, Tracy, Brian, Shelly, Ryan, Melanie and Dana, and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Cappra Ann, who died in infancy.

Verdena was born on December 24, 1926, the daughter of Henry “Hank” Schmickle and Cassie (Welch) Schmickle in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Walker High School. On February 15, 1947, she married Casper “Cap” Bowers at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Verdena was a homemaker and lifelong resident of the Center Point area and attended Alice Church in Center Point.
