Vida Nodurft, 80, of Manchester, Iowa, died at her home on November 6, 2008, of an apparent heart attack.
Vida was born July 8, 1928 in Roseland, NE, the daughter of Jacob and Margaret (Wermeskerch) Wengler. She graduated from Roseland High School in 1945 and began working at a bakery in Hastings, NE. On April 5, 1947, Vida was united in marriage to Kenneth W. Nodurft in Hastings. The couple made their home in Hastings where Vida raised her family and did daycare. In August of 1957, the couple moved to Manchester where she helped her husband in his gas station. For a short time, Vida worked at the Good Neighbor Home and at the E.M. Hughes Dry Good & Bridal Store. The couple retired in 1993.
Vida was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Manchester Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #3538. Vida enjoyed working puzzles, dancing, playing cards, doing crafts, and sewing.
Vida is survived by her three children, Bruce (Marianne) Nodurft of Manchester, Shirley (Pat) Gillespie of Lake Park, and Lisa (Steve) Jones of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Diane (Brian) Fiderlein, Brian (Barb) Nodurft, Kyle (Racheal) Nodurft, Scott (Melissa) Gillespie, Lara Gillespie, and Katie Jones; two brothers, Gary (Sherrie) Wengler of Hastings, NE, and David (Carolyn) Wengler of North Platte, NE.
Vida was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Margaret Wengler; her husband, Ken Nodurft in 2005, and two brothers, Dale Wengler and Donald Wengler.
