Virginia Lee Nelson, 80, of Springville, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2016, at Jones Regional Medical Center, Anamosa. Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at the Paralta Cemetery, Paralta.
Virginia is survived by her husband, Richard Nelson; children, Richard (Suann) Nelson of Whittier, Anthony (Danna) Nelson of Central City, Christy Huston of Springville, and Pamela Bailey of Springville; grandchildren, Bobby (Carry) Nelson, Catherine (Steven) Saunders, Nathan (Kylie) Nelson, Todd (Katie) Nelson, Judy (Spencer) Nowadzky, Calvin (Amber) Bailey, Heidi (Jessie) Jensen, Jacob Huston, and Tammy (Larry) Lawrence; step-grandsons, Josh and Jordan Cannon; 19 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Judith Lindley of Prairieburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Rion; and brother-in-law, Harley Lindley.
Virginia was born November 2, 1935 in rural Johnson County, the daughter of Paul and Dorothy (Green) Rion. On September 1, 1955, she married Richard Nelson in Trenton, Missouri. Virginia was a student nurses aide and homemaker. Virginia enjoyed canning, making candy, and her flower garden. She had a deep passion for spending time with each and every grandchild.
