Vivian was born on February 24, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, one of three children to Merton Wayne and Neva I. (Henderson) Deen. She was a graduate of Central City High School. Vivian began her career in the medical field, starting with the Mental Health Institute in Independence, Iowa, as a receptionist, and most recently at the Buchanan Community Health Center, before her retirement in 2003. Always a woman on the go, Vivian had other jobs wherever her travels took her. Most notably, she spent time working at Disney World in Florida, where she made many wonderful memories. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence. Vivian enjoyed being outdoors and fishing with Jim. Most important to her was time spent with her family. Vivian will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Vivian is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Deborah (Hal) Rowe of Spokane, Washington; two sons, Stanley (Deana) Niemeier of Walker, Iowa, and Jeffrey (Alea) Niemeier of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and significant other, James “Jim” Carpenter of Monticello.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Kevin McVay; one granddaughter at infancy, Lynsey Niemeier; brother, Neil Deen; and sister, Marian Marugg.
