Wayne Otto Kieckhaefer, 85, of Marion, died Monday, May 21, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. Nick Longworth. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the funeral home in Marion. Private family burial to take place at a later date at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Military honors provided by American Legion Post # 298 of Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Jewel of Marion; children, Steven (Susan) Kieckhaefer, Jeffrey (Robin) Kieckhaefer, and Kimberly Kieckhaefer, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Tina (David) Maiers, Scotta (Chris) Roling, Tiffany (Damon) Moore, Elizabeth (Dan Gorman) Kieckhaefer, Julia Kieckhaefer, and Emma Kieckhaefer; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Scott.
Wayne was born November 5, 1926 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Otto and Cecille (Kennedy) Kieckhaefer. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Pacific Theater during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He met Jewel Morse while attending the University of Dubuque, following his graduation; they were married on July 1, 1950 in Elmwood Park, IL. Following his discharge from the Army, Wayne worked for Collins Radio. He then went on to work for Abbott Laboratories, retiring in 1983. Wayne was a member of the American Legion Post # 298 of Marion for 66 years. He was an avid golfer, belonging to both Elmcrest and Fawn Creek Country Clubs. Wayne enjoyed spoiling his wife, traveling, and crossword puzzles.
