Wayne Lee McMurrin, 70, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, June 13, 2026. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Prairieburg-Boulder Cemetery in Prairieburg, Iowa. The family will host a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Central City American Legion Post 421, 6 Central City Road, Central City, Iowa. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Wayne was born September 6, 1955, in Central City, the son of Richard and Sandra (Baker) McMurrin. He graduated from Prairie High School and later earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from Mount Mercy College. Wayne married Christine Bailey. He worked as a traffic engineer for the City of Cedar Rapids for 30 years, retiring in 2014. Wayne enjoyed playing chess, reading, and cheering on the Denver Broncos and Chicago Cubs. Most of all, he treasured spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Christine McMurrin; brothers, Mike McMurrin (Beth Moore) and Dale McMurrin; sister, Kathy McMurrin; former sister-in-law, Robyn McMurrin; nieces, Lynette Drahos, Jennifer (Kombiz) Lavasany, and Courtney Marak; nephew, Shane McMurrin; best friend, Scotty McMurrin; four great-nephews and one great-niece; and grandchildren by love, Amlaeh Jerome, Aczander Jerome, and Asianna Jerome.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Ethan Doyle McMurrin.
