Willa Anna Edgerly, 95, of Central City, died Friday, December 8, 2006, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a short illness. Per Willa?s request, she chose to be cremated and have no visitation or services. Arrangements are by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include a sister, Daisy Sires of Adel and her children, Douglas Sires of Johnston, Iowa, Marjorie Kurdle of Baltimore, Maryland, and Marilyn Baker of St. Augustine, Florida; Willa?s brother, Mitchell?s children, William Edgerly of Hudson, Wisconsin, Christine Young of West Des Moines, Corinne Edgerly of New York City and Gisele Thornton of Sagamore Hills, Ohio; and a longtime friend, LeRoy Kula of Central City.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Mitchell Edgerly.
Willa was born November 26, 1911, the daughter of William and Elizabeth Majers Edgerly in Linn County. She graduated from Central City High School in 1929. A graduate of Coe College, Willa was a school teacher for fifty-six years, having taught at the Red School, Jordan?s Grove and South Boulder rural schools. She also taught at North Linn and Linn-Mar.
In lieu of flowers or contributions, Willa?s request was that all who knew and loved her would perform an act of kindness.
