William “Bill” Linn Johnson Sr., 92, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, December 7, 2021. A visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at First Church of the Open Bible, 1911 E Avenue NW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, 52405. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City, Iowa.
Bill was born January 8, 1929, at the family home in Guthrie County, Iowa, the son of Shirley and Hattie (Hagar) Johnson. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1947-1952 during the Korean conflict. Bill was united in marriage to Atha “Kitty” Cross on March 5, 1965, in Cedar Rapids. He worked at Penick & Ford and then as a union pipefitter for Bowker & Son’s Plumbing & Heating, working at the Corn Sweeteners Company until his retirement in 1980. Bill was a member of First Church of the Open Bible, and Local 125 Plumbers and Pipefitters. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his weekends fishing on the Mississippi River. Bill loved playing cards and spending time with family. He was a wonderful man who will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Kitty Johnson of Cedar Rapids; children, William Johnson Jr., of Wilsonville, Oregon, Robyn (David) Warren of Corning, California, Jeffrey Cron of Cedar Rapids, Julie (Joey) McIntyre of Colorado, Pamela Johnson of Cedar Rapids, and Sheryl Vaughn (Jay Atwater), of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Michelle, Rick, Amy, Jay, Amanda, Cassandra, Michael, Jennifer, Donny, Brittany, and Mathew; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Bert Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona, Patricia Phelps of Cedar Rapids, and Mary Lou Duncan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley and Hattie Johnson; daughter, Joni Lynn Miller; son, Scott Allan Johnson; two brothers, Tom and Don Johnson; and brothers-in-law, Roy Duncan and George Phelps.
