William "Bill" Keating

William “Bill” Keating, 74, of Tiffin, Iowa, peacefully passed on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, while vacationing in Canada. The family will host visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 650 240th Street, North Liberty, Iowa. A celebration of life service begins at 11 a.m. with lunch to follow. A 2:30 p.m. burial with military honors will take place at Blain Cemetery in Swisher, Iowa. After the burial there will be an informal gathering at the Swisher American Legion.

Bill was born December 9, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Leo and Nona (Trainor) Keating. He graduated from Jefferson High School with the Class of 1970. Bill served honorably in the United States Army for two years. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service retiring after 35 years. He was a member of the American Postal Workers Union.

Bill was a faithful and charter member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where he participated in several mission trips, various committees and Thursday Men’s Bible study. He was proud to help remodel and maintain the current church. Bill loved classic rock and roll and the blues. He shared his love of music by playing guitar regularly at church, Florida social events and numerous West Music's “Weekend Warriors” showcases.

Bill was an avid St. Louis Cardinals, Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He loved to play cards, laugh and tease his friends and family. In Tiffin Bill enjoyed tending his garden, mowing lawn, talking to the neighbors and teasing the neighbor kids and dogs. He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida where he was a member of the Elks, Punta Gorda, Florida chapter. He loved playing cards, shuffleboard and bocce ball; socializing with family and friends; and taking walks along the canal to check on the gators.

For many years, Bill made his home on an acreage in Swisher, where he enjoyed farming, gardening, and raising cattle. He continued his friendship with neighbors and friends from Swisher. He looked forward to playing horseshoes on Tuesdays with the guys.

Bill and his life partner of over 26 years, Nancy, were best friends. They enjoyed quiet evenings at home; laughing over silly and dumb stuff; playing cards and games with friends and family; and traveling to places on their bucket list.

Bill loved being a father and was proud of his kids. Bill loved his family and extended family and they loved him.

Survivors include his life partner, Nancy Grove of Tiffin; his children, Brook (Brett) Campbell and Chad Keating, both of Oxford, Iowa; his sister, Nancy (Steve) Burrier of Kansas City; his nephews, Nate (Annie) and Tony (Jill) Lamb; great-nieces, Lily and Tessa; great-nephew, Luke; Nancy’s nephews, Josh and Brian Grove; Nancy’s great-nieces, Sierra and Nola Leech; and many other close family, friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Despite his quiet and kind demeanor, Bill had a devilish sense of humor. Everyone who knew him loved him and will miss him.
