William G. "Bill? Schoop, 80, of Marion, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006, in his home after a long illness. Services: 1 p.m. Friday, May 19, 2006, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion, by the Rev. Kevin Jones. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 298 of Marion. Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Mary; his children, Cindy (Ron) Redington of Cedar Rapids, and Jodi (Dave) Cahalan and Chris (Jim) Meggers, all of Marion; seven grandchildren, Traci (Dean) Hepker, Brian (Nicole) Redington, Alison (Steve) Graham, Vicki Pitstick, Natalie (Chad) Williams, Kelly Meggers and Wil (Amy) Meggers; great-grandchildren, Mallorie and McKenna Kaut, Sydney and Cecilia Pitstick, Cade and Brody Williams, Katie and Abbie Hepker, Patricia Redington, and her yet-to-be-born brother, William Redington, and Kynnick Meggers; two sisters, Adele Seward and Vivian (John) Link, both of Brooklyn, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Verna Moreland and Ruth Gifford; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill was born the son of F.H.William Schoop and Lillian Marie (Schenk) Schoop on October 1, 1925, in Tete Des Morts Township in Jackson County, Iowa. He attended several colleges, including Iowa State University. Bill served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps during World War II. He was united in marriage to Mary D. Watters on September 19, 1948, in Bellevue, Iowa. Bill farmed in partnership with his father; was a sales representative for Moorman Manufacturing of Quincy, Illinois; worked at Wilson Foods, from which he retired; and was a courier for Weland Labratories, until his full retirement.
Bill was a 50-year member of the American Legion; Fraternal Order of Eagles; a charter member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection; and a youth assistant for the Jackson County 4-H Club. He was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan.
Bill will be remembered as the "cover boy? on the front page of the July 9, 1932, issue of the Wallace Farmer, along with his cousin, Donald Schenk. He was always teaching the family to do things his way - "the right way!? He will be greatly missed by his family and numerous friends, including his coffee group at Lindale Mall.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of Mercy, Dr. Beckett, Dr. Frank, Dr. Langager, Dr. Emery, Dr. Deeney and the staff of Mercy Medical Center.
A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Mercy and Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Bill?s memory.
