William R. Whorton, 68, a resident of Living Center West, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, November 08, 2007, in St. Luke’s Hospital, in Cedar Rapids, following a lengthy illness. Services: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 10, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 11 to 1 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.
Survivors include his daughter, Susan Whorton (Todd Williams) of Cedar Rapids; son, Michael Whorton of Waterloo; granddaughter, Shauna Williams; sister, Mary Hildebrand-Whorton of Cedar Rapids; special friend and soul mate, Betty Minkler of Cedar Rapids; and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Marcia Amend; and brother-in-law, Dennis Hildebrand.
William was born November 12, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Ray and Mabel (Smith) Whorton. He owned and operated Autocrafters Body Shop in Marion for 30 years.
William enjoyed sprint cars and street rods.
